Knobbliest vegetable winner - is it fit for meat and two veg?(September 04, 2016)
This weekend saw a wide range of entries to the Childs Ercall Country Craft and Produce show and it was good to see new faces there. Some of the youngest new entrants were also prize winners, with both Finn and Lucas McCann gaining firsts for photography and Charlie Harrison producing a prize winning runner bean.
Ruth Newby was the overall winner on the day with more firsts than any one else. Some beautiful collections of all sorts of garden produce made the 'basket of vegetables' section very challenging to judge: Christine Murphy was a worthy winner. The knobbliest vegetable competition was dominated by potatoes that will be very challenging to peel. The competition for prettiest garden visible from the road was won by Barry Managh
Audrey Wellings' wonderful handicrafts ensured she was a very close second for the overall prize, whilst a lovely set of photographic entries gave us all plenty to admire. Gorgeous home-made cakes made the refreshments special and we all had a very enjoyable afternoon.
